Japan OELP day 1 & 2
17 December
3pm (Singapore time): We reported to school, had to do some
last checks for our departure to Osaka. Ms Lim gave a word of advice to the
band members based on our seniors’ performance in Japan last year as well as
her observation of the lack of unity between one another. With that, we left
for the airport.
6:00pm: Check in to airport. We experienced some difficulties moving together as a group.
Most of us crowd around areas and caused inconvenience to the public. With
instructions from the tour guide, Mr Ma, we managed to move off to the check in
counter quickly and left for Hong Kong.
11:54pm: We landed in Hong Kong. Fortunately, the flight to
Hong Kong was not delayed, unlike last year, and we had time to roam around at
the Hong Kong International Airport. However, most of the shops were closed due
to the late hours. We then left for Osaka.
18December
7:30am (Japan time): We went to the Kobe Disaster Reduction
Museum. There, we learnt about the 1995 Kobe earthquake, which was of magnitude
7.3. We realized the severity of natural disasters and the importance of
intra-community cooperation. By helping others in need, the people of Kobe were
able to rebuild Kobe into an industrialized and independent city.
1:30pm: After having a Western lunch at the Tempozan Market
Place, we went to the Kaiyuukan Aquarium. It is the 2nd largest
aquarium in the world. We managed to catch a glimpse of some of the world’s
most exotic species.
3:30pm: After checking into the Ramada Osaka hotel, we had band rehearsal at the Phoenix Hall, with the help of Shibukawa-san, the Chairman of the Kansai Association. Mr Ong emphasized the importance of listening to each others’ parts and to memorise the essential parts of the songs.
6:30pm: We went back to Tempozan Market Place to have dinner. We had Kushi-Katsu buffet. Kushi-Katsu is a form of deep-fried dish.
We ended the day with a debrief from Mr Ong and Mr Ma. We are going to have an exchange with Tezukayama High School and visit the deer park at Nara.
